A Candidate for Lebanon’s Sovereignty
I think a lot of politicians are taking their time with this, as events unfold around us at a rapid pace—from the fall of the Assad regime to Hezbollah’s changed tone, and Israel’s continued violations of the current 60-day ceasefire.
Friends of mine, and others I’ve spoken to over the past 18 months, know I’ve been saying it should be Joseph Aoun, and I believe it will be. I’m aware that some might doubt choosing another Army commander, given our rocky history with former commanders-turned-presidents. I agree the track record isn’t great, but I’ll explain why Joseph Aoun stands apart.
